My first ever J&B Met.

For those of you who have no idea what I’m speaking about, lemme give you a brief explanation. The Met, is pretty much a day at the horse races, It’s the place to be seen and the who’s who of everything is there. This means lots of parties, with lots of canapés and lots of fashion.

I was very excited.

Full-ShotI had been lucky enough to win tickets on twitter with a fashion friend and Sunglass Hut. It was an amazing prize that made us VVIP (yep, double ‘V’, like a boss) with everything we could possibly want all day including a little trip to Sunglasses hut to pick up a little fashion something for our eyes.

Now, dressing for the met is not just a case of being dapper. It requires a little more, bravery as you’ll see in some outfits later in the post. I took a more “traditional” approach and went in the J&B brand colours, red and yellow.

The details of this outfit are as follows:

Aviator sunglasses by RayBan

Navy skinny chinos by Topman

medium-shotTartan blazer from Zara

Yellow oxford shirt by Mr Price

Red belt by Country Road (available at Woolworths)

This day was just to fun not to share. So here goes.

Firstly I thought it was high time the lovely lady behind the lens got some air time, after all, she’s much easier on the eyes than me, and looked particularly beautiful on the day.

The room was of course filled with all kinds of fabulous people, and I finally got to meet some people I’ve been wanting to meet for a long time, singer songwriter Chaid Saaiman, Mr PR extraordinaire Thulane Hadebe and of course brand manager of Sunglass Hut Wedaad Adams.

I picked out some really fun gents outfits that I wanted to share, mostly the kind of stuff I wish I was brave enough to wear out the house. Everything from sleeveless shirts to printed pants.

The ladies were definitely not to be outshone and for the benefit of the ladies who read this blog, as well as the gents who just like looking at beautiful ladies, I’ve included some shots here.

Something I picked up that I really wanted to share on the mens fashion from was the interesting use of bow ties, or at least, mens accessories where bow ties normally are. Just take a look.

Lastly for all of those who just want to get a sneak peek at what was going on and who was dressed in what, I went around taking some pics of what and who I thought stood out of the crowd. Enjoy.

What an awesome day, thanks again a fashion friend and Sunglass hut.

Okay. Stay Fancy.

Todays Fancy Friday outfit has been inspired by Nick Wooster.

Yep, all theese Wooster Wednesday posts are catching up with me, and mostly I’m slowly becoming a little camo obsessed. Yikes!

Yesterday, I nearly picked up a camo blazer, camo moccasins, a camo belt and camo scarf at Zara, eventually I just pried them out of my own hands (trickier than it sounds)

I do love this tuxedo jacket though. It’s fun wearing it outside of a black tie event, but it becomes difficult to pair with anything other than a bow tie, in this case, I took the Wooster approach and did the matching shirt and tie combo (wish I had more of these)

Misha took some fun shots walking to our ‘location’, she insisted I use them, she’s becoming quite the photographer, these are very ‘sartorialist’.

Anyway. Here are the details of todays outfit.

Skinny jeans by Wrangler (available on Zando)

Shirt and tie combo by Ben Sherman

Tuxedo jacket from Markham

Skull lapel pin (one of a set of earrings) available at Loviso

Camo pocket square by WMBW (still trying to get these guys into production, I’m nearly there)

Shoes by Aldo

Laces by 1901 (available at Nordstrom)

Okay. Stay fancy.

That is on Trendsetting Potential at least.

That’s right folks, what we have here is Style Wars: a trump cards game.

When it comes to the game of fashion, you really are sometimes sacrificing your “Boardroom Kudos” for your “Seduction Factor”. Same with this game. It works like every other game of trumps (If you haven’t played trumps you haven’t lived).

This genius set is the handy work of London-based illustrator David Sparshott. Thanks David, you’ve just made me feel like a kid again, albeit in a different kind of ‘fancy dress’.

If, like me, you just have to have these guys, they’re available here.

Okay. Stay fancy.

We’re always looking to learn something from Mr Wooster.

Today, maybe we learn to never say never. Like, woolen shorts…and yes, man stockings. There is no doubt that this outfit is braver than most, and it requires a certain “I dont give a fuck” attitude to wear it out in the real world, but lets be honest, it’s pretty freaking awesome!

Lesson learnt, Mr Wooster, Lesson learnt. From now on, lets all give a little less of a fuck.

Okay?

Okay. Stay fancy

I’m a massive fan of the sartorialist.

For those of you who don’t know who he is, he’s a street fashion photographer / blogger turned massive fashion celebrity. He has the amazing ability of catching the most amazing portraits and spotting the most unique fashion. Click on the link above to see some of his work.

This video is just a beautiful piece about some of the people he has captured, I love the second person Michael, a barber who always dresses for the occasion, assuming the occasion is set in 1907. That right there is style and confidence!

Thanks to my good friend at hewhosayshmm for sharing.

Okay. Stay Fancy.

The tattoo.

Yep. The more fashion becomes accessible to everyone in the world, the more important being an individual has become. And nothing can make you stand out from the crowd like some personalised ink, after all, it is the ultimate bespoke, isn’t it?

I’m relatively new to the whole tattoo game and only braved my first last year in Austin, Texas, but am itching for a new one to add to what will one day be a full sleeve. So, I was lucky to win some tickets off the Bangers and Nash blog to this year’s annual Cape Tattoo Convention where I went off to get some inspiration

tattoo-2

There were some amazing artists and I saw some incredible pieces being done. A part of my fancy prize is a tattoo voucher with one of South Africa’s best, Manuela from Wildfire tattoos. Perhaps I’ll share the experience with you guys.

Anyway, so it turns out this wasn’t just one giant room abuzz with the sound of tattoo guns. Levi’s was one of the sponsors and hosted a tattoo inspired fashion and art expo. They had commissioned local tattoo artists and designers to “tattoo” the classic trucker jacket.

I absolutely loved these 3, and for those of you who don’t read Afrikaans (one of our 11 official languages here in South Africa) the typography reads “Friendship, Freedom, Peace”… man I would kill for that jacket.

Finally, I thought I would share with you guys some of my favourite pieces from the art and design expo, all inspired by tattoos. As a graphic designer by trade I really appreciate this stuff, I even bought a few pieces for the house.

Tattoo-Expo

So, I realise this isn’t purely a fashion post but I thought it was worth sharing. If you absolutely hated it, or maybe even mildly hated it, lemme know.

Okay. Stay fancy.

It’s been tough dressing all fancy like lately.

Cape Town is HOT!!!

None the less it’s #FancyFriday and there are bigger forces at play here. Clearly I was in a very blue grey mood, that’s ok, not every day can be a green pants day!

The trick today was keeping it simple and neutral so that the tiny pops of reddish burgundy-ish could pop out. Pop pop.

Here are the details of this outfit:

Skinny fit raw denim by Levis

Blue blazer from Zara

Grey oxford shirt by Cotton On

Brown leather anchor belt from ASOS

White and burgundy pocket square from ASOS

Skull lapel pin (one half of a set of earrings) from Loviso

Red tie clip from The tie Bar

Navy blue and red polka dot tie with striped backing from Markham

Brown Suede loafers from Zara

Okay. Stay fancy.
