It’s been getting pretty cold down here in Cape Town, and our winters suck, it rains sideways with an icey wind!
I mind the cold though, gives me a nice chance to layer, and I’m a massive fan of layering. Layering, if you get it right can give you the chance to create 2 completely different looks with only 1 outfit. I’m just about to show you how.
So this was look 1, it’s almost semi fancy with the use of a lapel flower and pocket square on a slim fitting denim jacket. With the scarf and the boots it’s pretty much a run of the mill look, very basic if you ignore the accessories. But it’s all about the layering you see.
Look 2 (sans scarf). Ta daaaaa….
Okay, I guess it’s not in a completely different league but it does bring a different angle to a Fancy Friday. I keep getting badgered on Instagram about always looking the same, so I thought I would mix it up a little, not crazy, but bring some casual into the fanciness with the boots and denim jacket.
This also became an exercise in pattern mixing, we have houndstooth, polka dots and a tartan/chevron mix. Once again, it’s all about scale, if you keep a fair amount of differentiation in the scale of your patterns, they will all work together, provided of course you stay within the same colour palette.
For my last trick…How incredible is this pocket square Misha picked up for me from Paul Smith in Singapore. Everyone needs a pocket square with a monkey having dinner don they. I love this idea.

Okay. Stay fancy.
I’ve seen you wear your denim jacket so many different ways that you have inspired me. My goal today is to come home with a new Levi’s (or similar) jacket. Wish me good hunting.
I know this amy be a little late…but I hope the hunting went well!!
I simply can not live without my Levis denim jacket! I can wear it with everything!
Hunting went well. I was able to pick up one in black at Urban Outfitters for only $37. I really wanted a dark blue like yours, but that will just have to wait. Thanks for inspiring.
