Unknown-2

I’m a simple man, and I like simple thinks. I also just simply want these amazing shoes.

I already own a pair of two tone shoes and I’m surprised how much wear I get out of them, so I kinda feel like I need (WANT) another pair and I kinda feel like these are them. The navy in these will make them even easier to wear as they’ll just go amazingly with a a pair of jeans and because they’re all leather (including the sole) they’re just gonna age beautifully!

Surprisingly though, they’re relatively cheap for a “want of the week” at $79 and all leather its beyond cheap! So if your’e sitting at home thinking its time to ‘Treat Yo Self’ you can go do so here.

Wanna get them for a little less?Course you do! Then make sure you use your MasterCard, and promo code MCSHOP at checkout, yep the cross border promotion is still on so expect deals like free shipping as well as knowing exactly what the landing costs of these dbad boys would be.

Okay. Stay Fancy.

full-lengthSo as you may have seen in my “win 1 of 200 tie subscriptions” post, the next 4 weeks of Fancy Fridays will be brought to you by the chaps over at Friday Tie Day.

Not only because they love a bit of fanciness, but because they’re giving away 50 tie subscriptions a week over 4 weeks.

So of course, my outfits have all been built around these new ties, and I started with my favourite, this navy and yellow polka dot neckpiece. Polka dots have been creeping there way back into fashion over the past few months and it’s only natural that they will find themselves in the tie game. Good thing that as polka dot ties are amazing, and bring that certain “power tie” feel to them.

When building an outfit around a tie I find its best to work from the tie out, so tie, shirt, blazer, pants etc. Thats what I did here. I love how the polka dot and gingham on the shirt create a similar negative shape with different patterns, it helps to bring them together while allowing them to maintain their individual patterns.

After that, it was merely complementing the yellow polka dot on the tie with a some lapel pin and pocket square details.

Here are some close ups:Medium-shottie-close-upshoespocket-detailsSo, now for the fun part.

Go grab yourself a tie subscription from Friday Tie Day valued at $39. All you need do is enter promo code WMBW50 and voila, if you’re one of the first 50, consider the tie of the month to be delivered to your door anywhere in the world.

If you miss this week, don’t worry, were giving away 50 ties a week over the next 3 weeks, so keep an eye out over my twitter as I announce the code there first and then my Facebook page the very next day. If you wanna learn more about the competition go here.

Good luck and of course, stay fancy.

french-cuffs cufflink-watch-style-bloggerMuch like all the other dressiquete rules, this one is pretty simple.

When you’re wearing a shirt that has french cuffs, you should always wear a jacket and of course cufflinks. You can identify a french cuff shirt as the cuffs are doubled over and there are no buttons with which to fasten them, hence forth why you need cufflinks.

Yes sure, I know, lots of your friends wear their french cuffs rolled up nice and high to give them a chunky roll up and you often see some guys down at the local, wearing a french cuff shirt with a pair of jeans and no jacket, sure, but we don’t wanna be most guys, do we? No, we wanna be gentlemen, and a gentleman knows what not to do when it comes to french cuffs.

While were on the topic, lets talk about those cufflinks and what to match them with. Like most of your metal accessories, you should aim for matching them with the other metal in your outfit, so gold watch, gold tie pin, gold cufflinks, gold belt buckle. Hmm…jeez, maybe tone down on the gold a little there midas.

If you’re getting fancy and there is of course no reason not to get fancy, you can also pair the colours of your cufflinks with the colours of your outfit, thats simple enough. When it comes to novelty cufflinks, well, they take on the same rules as novelty ties and socks, when in doubt, dont do it.

Always be in doubt.

So to get you started on this new french cuff adventure here are some basics to get you going, I’ve picked some stuff from the David Donahue collection at Nordstrom because I think it’s well priced for the quality, and the last think you want is a cheap french cuff, don’t even get me started on cheap cufflinks.

Tie subscriptions? Yeah, totally! It’s kind of like a wine of the month club, except you get drunk on compliments from looking so awesome.

A couple of weeks ago, the gents at Friday Tie Day asked me if I’de like to give away some tie subscriptions, and although I’m all about the giving, I’m also all about giving away stuff you guys would actually want! SO I asked them to send me some of their previous ties so I could check them out, you know a little quality control.

Then this arrived.polka-dot-tiegrey-tietie-and-packagehoundstooth-tiebrown-tieI cant say I wasn’t instantly impressed. Every tie is different, because every month has a new theme, so the tie may be wool, silk or even hemp. I also loved the width, I’ve kind of outgrown the skinny tie, but I do still like a narrow width, these nailed it!

My favourite thing was the texture (I’m a sucker for a textured tie), check out some close ups.

So, how will the give away work?

Well, over the next 4 weeks Friday will become Fancy Friday Tie Day, and we’ll be giving away 50 one month subscriptions every week delivered to your door anywhere in the world and valued valued at $39 each.

Every Friday I will be releasing a new promo code and the first 50 people to enter it get the subscription, That’s it, its that easy.

I am gonna make it a little more interesting though and stagger where I release the promo code, from my smallest audience to my largest so that everyone gets a chance to grab a tie subscription.

I will be doing a sneak release on my twitter account on Thursday evenings, followed by a morning release of the promo code on my Facebook page and then finally, here on the blog and on Instagram when I post that weeks Fancy Friday look.

When you get the code you go straight to Friday Tie Day and then.

1.) Login/ register with Facebook account or email address.
2.) After logging in, choose “Buy” and select which tie you would like to receive.
3.) Choose “One Month” and then “I have a discount” (or if you want to buy a longer subscription you can, the discount code subtracts $39 USD from any purchase)
4.) Enter shipping info and credit card info.
5.) Click “Get It”.
Your tie should be at you within a week, if you only wants the one free tie, make sure to login to your account and pause or cancel the subscription (your dashboard will display any active subscriptions), after receiving their first tie, but please don’t try and be the guy who racks up promo codes and uses them over the 4 weeks to get multiple subscriptions. Friday Tie Day will only be shipping 1 tie per person, regardless of how many codes you use, you will however be using up that code and someone will end up missing out.

That’s it folks, good luck and keep an eye out for those tweets and post.

Okay. Stay Fancy.

Full-lengthBasically I’ve been finding my #FacnyFriday outfits a little boring. Maybe you agree.

I wanted something a little brighter this week something that went ‘pop pop pop’. So I went for this deep red cotton blazer sitting in the back of my closet and built everything else around it.

There was just enough of the same red in the tie to make it fit, but I dint want it to be the only blue in the outfit, so I paired it up with these black and blue brogues ( I love these guys). The rest was just making sure I didn’t overpower the looks with too many colours so I went for a silver Skull lapel pin and a very simple pocket square.

Here are some details:

Timex Color Pop Easy Reader Watch, 42mmThis weeks want of the week is special. Yep. Firstly it’s early, but most importantly it’s themed. That’s right folks, black friday is upon us. For those of you who don’t know what black friday is, its the day after Thanksgiving in the United States and seen as the opening of the christmas shopping season and it is synonymous with massive sales and promotions that make americans go crazy, but we’ll be getting to that later - the sales and promotions not the crazy.

Black Friday = Black watches!

That’s the theme.

I said it was themed I didn’t say it was clever.

I’ve been noticing a lot of these 1 colour watches around lately, every brand seems to have there own design, but they all do one. I like it, I like the simplicity that it offers the watch.

Im generally into very small, very simple watches, the less bells and whistles the better, I need to tell the time, maybe the date, but I’m certainly not gonna be running laps or checking up on moon cycles. But, this all black approach means you can have the bells and whistles without the brashness.

I’ve picked a few that I like, and they’re all from Bloomingdales. Above s my favourite and surprisingly - for the want of the week - its also the cheapest. I have a simple Timex indiglo with a green nato strap and I really love it, but this would be that next level up with a fancy leather strap and that great pop of colour on the second hand. Nothing more to it, it’s just that awesome.

Here are 3 more options on a scale from reasonable, to incredibly reasonable! I told you this want of the week would be different!

Now the clincher, as South Africans we finally get to take place in that dream shopping day “black Friday”…just without all the in store punching of people in the face. So together with your Mastercard and the promo code MCHOP you will get free standard shipping with your purchase of ZAR 1000 (or more) as part of the cross border promotion. You also get $25 off every $200 you buy for as part of Bloomingdales black Friday promotion.

Why are you still reading this? You should be shopping by now.

Okay. Stay fancy.
