Fancy Friday

Today was about pink.

Simple, I had a big meeting with a big client who’s brand is all about pink. So, I knew the pink shirt was in and when I got home from work at midnight it was the only thing I knew I’de be wearing this fancy friday morning. Nice thing about pink is that it’s probably the only shirt every man should have in his closet, it goes with all skin types.

The pink on this shirt is quite pale, so I used the touches of red to help it ‘pop’ a bit. Yep, that works.

On a side note, Misha and I were desperately trying to get some pigeons this morning, but they were having none of it. Next time, we’ll bring bread…or corn. Ooo…maybe corn bread.

So lets get into the details of this outfit.

The (badly faded) black skinny chinos are from Topman

Navy blazer from Markham

Pink oxford shirt from Mr Price

Grey Donegal tweed tie from LVJ Haberdasher

Tie clip from The tie bar

Arthur’s hank pocket square by Heywood 1922

Skull and cross bow lapel pin by WMBW

Shoes by Zara

full-shotEvery morning I try to make time for a Deluxe coffee.

Even when I don’t have time, I usually make time. Kinda a ritual to start my day.

But, this isn’t a coffee blog, so lets get to the fashion.

Today I had one mission! Sporting the awesome Skull suspenders that my friend Emma brought back from Hong Kong for me. Sweet girl.

Suspenders are one of those really fun menswear accessories. For the most part they’re completely hidden all day, and then every now and then, the detail peeks out. They’re way more comfy than a belt, (you never wear both) I should wear more of them.

full-shot---open-jacketThe details of this outfit are as follows:

Green skinny Chinos by Levis

medium-shot

Grey blazer by Zara

Brown Herringbone tie from ASOS

Bronze tie clip from The tie bar

Kenneth hank by Heywood 1922

Todays Fancy Friday outfit has been inspired by Nick Wooster.

Yep, all theese Wooster Wednesday posts are catching up with me, and mostly I’m slowly becoming a little camo obsessed. Yikes!

Yesterday, I nearly picked up a camo blazer, camo moccasins, a camo belt and camo scarf at Zara, eventually I just pried them out of my own hands (trickier than it sounds)

I do love this tuxedo jacket though. It’s fun wearing it outside of a black tie event, but it becomes difficult to pair with anything other than a bow tie, in this case, I took the Wooster approach and did the matching shirt and tie combo (wish I had more of these)

Misha took some fun shots walking to our ‘location’, she insisted I use them, she’s becoming quite the photographer, these are very ‘sartorialist’.

Anyway. Here are the details of todays outfit.

Skinny jeans by Wrangler (available on Zando)

Shirt and tie combo by Ben Sherman

Tuxedo jacket from Markham

Skull lapel pin (one of a set of earrings) available at Loviso

Camo pocket square by WMBW (still trying to get these guys into production, I’m nearly there)

Shoes by Aldo

Laces by 1901 (available at Nordstrom)

Okay. Stay fancy.

It’s been tough dressing all fancy like lately.

Cape Town is HOT!!!

None the less it’s #FancyFriday and there are bigger forces at play here. Clearly I was in a very blue grey mood, that’s ok, not every day can be a green pants day!

The trick today was keeping it simple and neutral so that the tiny pops of reddish burgundy-ish could pop out. Pop pop.

Here are the details of this outfit:

Skinny fit raw denim by Levis

Blue blazer from Zara

Grey oxford shirt by Cotton On

Brown leather anchor belt from ASOS

White and burgundy pocket square from ASOS

Skull lapel pin (one half of a set of earrings) from Loviso

Red tie clip from The tie Bar

Navy blue and red polka dot tie with striped backing from Markham

Brown Suede loafers from Zara

Okay. Stay fancy.

I’ve decided we need to start making more of an effort with the outfits we upload on the blog.

So, whenever possible, we’ll be doing proper pics with some nice details.

I had 2 things I wanted to wear today, that coral blazer that’s been sitting in my closet for 3 weeks and my new Skull & Crossbows lapel pin. I basically had to make the yellow work by catching it with details in the tie and on my laces.

But here are at the details of the whole outfit.

Tan belt by Paul Smith

Coral blazer from Zara

White oxford shirt from Mr Price

Tartan tie from Mr Price

Fancy friday is back.

Yep, finger to casual friday and we dress up for the day. This outfit is actually quite tame considering my usual Fancy Friday getup. Basically I was looking for an excuse to take my new wingtips out for a walk. Also, truth be told, the festive season has been a little unkind to my waistline, these are one of the few pairs of pants that still fit : )

The details of the outfit are the following

Blue blazer from Markham

Blue button down shirt from Abercrombie & Fitch

Vintage tartan tie from The Salvation Army

Blue leather belt from H&M

Green skinny chinos by Levis

Blue black brogues by Ted Baker (available at stuttafords)

Okay. Stay Fancy.

Sorry this is late.

The festive season has been keeping me very busy.

Either way this was my last outfit in the GQ Style Diary series I was lucky enough to be featured in. It was also a fancy friday so of course it meant going out with a bang and trying to hit every detail. I also really wanted to bust out my DIY lapel pin, the other half of the skull earrings that I painted with Misha’s nail varnish. That’s fast fashion right there.

Talking of details, the following are all the details on this outfit.

Black and white gingham shirt by Ben Sherman

Skull & crossbones bow tie by Ralph Lauren Rugby

Navy Blazer from Markhams

Red leather belt from Country Road (Available at Woolworths)

Burgundy pants from H&MBurgundy lapel pin (refashioned earring) from Lovisa

Burgundy and white pocket square from ASOS

It was time to introduce the guys at the GQ Personal Style Diary to Fancy Friday

For those of you who may be new to the blog, Fancy Friday is a simple way to go against the grain every ‘casual Friday’. It started off on Instagram where people would send through submissions of there fanciest outfit that friday. We would pick a winner and feature them.

Either way the worlds getting to casual, so I like to dress up every friday as dapper as I can. I love this floral tie, you would think that something that busy is difficult to pear up with anything else, but the beauty of all those colours is that you can wear it with either.

The details of the outfit are the following:

Blue blazer with navy piping from H&M

White button down oxford shirt from Mr Price

Purple skinny chinos from Cotton On

Floral tie by Stephen Cole (available at Stuttafords)

Lapel pins (refashioned earring) from Mr Price

Blue suede shoes by Zara Man

Okay. Stay Fancy.

Been rocking the coloured pants lately.

Although this look never really goes out of fashion it kinda comes and goes in waves…or colours at least. So while it’s here, I’m gonna own it, or try really really hard.

I realise I may have overdone it on the red, what with it being EVERYWHERE and all. But fancy friday is exactly about that, it’s about taking a day to push you style envelope a little, or a lot as the case would be, and as we learnt from Paul Smith just the other day, the best way to do that is in the details.

The details of the outfit are the following:

Black and white gingham button up from Ben Sherman

Black skinny tie by Markham

Green and Red pocket square by Markham

Grey blazer with black piping from Topman

Tan leather belt by Paul Smith

Red skinny chinos by Mr Price

Tan point oxfords from Socrati

Okay. Stay Fancy.

Pattern Mixing.

That’s what I’m talking about.

The trick? Is playing with your sizes. You gotta have a change in the scale of the pattern (the same can be said for layering patterns) In this case, the florals were quite big so I made sure the houndstooth was a lot smaller. To integrate them better and this is a general pocket square rule, you just need to make sure the overall colour of your pocket square picks up on something in your outfit, by picking up on the tie it makes the tie less busy, then again, by matching the tie colours to the shirt colours, it makes the tie feel a little less busy. That was it really.

The details of the outfit are as follows

Pink oxford shirt from Mr Price

Floral tie by Stephen Cole (Available at stuttafords)

Blue blazer from Zara

Arthur’s hank pocket square by Heywood 1922

Skinny green chinos by Levis

Brown bluchers from Zara

Okay. Stay Fancy.
