See that?

That cupcake has my name all over it!

I was luck enough to invited to the preview of the adidas summer and spring 2013 collection, as well as be let in on all the plans they have for the upcoming year! I’m not sure I’m allowed to share that with you guys, but what I can say is get ready for awesome.

Now, I may have fallen off the exercise wagon a little, maybe my skinny chinos have become a little skinnier than I would have liked. But in the past I have been known to do a bit of running, and old followers may remember that I once posted an ‘Outfit of the day’ that was just me in running gear. adidas is now sponsoring the 2 oceans marathon, and I reckon I’m gonna hit the road again, and aim for my first half marathon next year….also I ate that cupcake…and the white one (tasted like fluffy clouds)

Anyway, I digress, what I wanted to share with you - because I took some sneaky shots while I was there - are some of the goodies coming out of the adidas originals label, in specific the blue collection. The blue collection is like the older more stylish brother of the originals family and they have some pretty sweet stuff.

Being a big fan of details, I just love these skinny jeans with the blue stitching, it’s such a fun detail to play with and those blue plimsoles for a casual day out…are you kidding me! Hello Awesome!

Anyway, keep an eye out for these guys, I’m guessing they’ll be hitting our shores very soon, and our friends over in the northern hemisphere are already rocking the blue detailed turn up!

Okay. Stay Fancy.

Been rocking the coloured pants lately.

Although this look never really goes out of fashion it kinda comes and goes in waves…or colours at least. So while it’s here, I’m gonna own it, or try really really hard.

I realise I may have overdone it on the red, what with it being EVERYWHERE and all. But fancy friday is exactly about that, it’s about taking a day to push you style envelope a little, or a lot as the case would be, and as we learnt from Paul Smith just the other day, the best way to do that is in the details.

The details of the outfit are the following:

Black and white gingham button up from Ben Sherman

Black skinny tie by Markham

Green and Red pocket square by Markham

Grey blazer with black piping from Topman

Tan leather belt by Paul Smith

Red skinny chinos by Mr Price

Tan point oxfords from Socrati

Okay. Stay Fancy.

Okay. So, I know this will now make my 3rd “how to tie a bow tie” post on the blog.

And I promise, it will possibly be the last. But this is Nick Wooster teaching us how to tie a bow tie, and this is Wooster Wednesday.

The other reason I stuck it on here is because some of you may have made the brave step in buying a self tie bow tie and have just struggled to get it right, now you don’y have to feel so alone. See? This man with a beard also couldn’t tie a bow tie.

So, what has Nick Wooster taught us this week? Yes, yes, he has taught us to tie a bow tie! True. He also taught us that shark pants are cool, and if you know a little something about fashion…and your friends don’t, well, pass it on.

Friends don’t let friends dress badly!

Okay. Stay fancy.

Who says white men cant jump?

The last time I wore this tie I felt it would have worked better with a pink shirt.

The red is very bright and so I thought the pink would help tone it down a bit. I also decided to go ultra preppy, but college type preppy, with the team name on the cable knit cardigan and of course my favourite brogues. Im not crazy about the buttons on this cardigan and may have a bit of a DIY bash at replacing them with some nice leather guys.

The details of the outfit are the following:

Pink oxford Button up from Mr Price

Red and white knit tie by Heywood 1922

Blue cable knit cardigan Markham

Tan leather belt by Paul Smith

Dark wash skinny jeans by Wrangler

Tan wingtips from Zara

Okay. Stay Fancy.

Tom Ford says, “keep your jacket buttoned. Always. It’s just really flattering” and Tom Ford is right, because even though Tom Ford puts on his pants one leg at a time like the rest of us, when his pants are on, he’s Tom Ford.

So now that we know our jackets should always be buttoned, it opens up a whole new set of questions, and rules. Firstly, the “always” part of keeping your jacket buttoned applies only to when you are standing, it should be unbuttoned when you sit down.

With regards to the above sometimes, always, never rule it applies to the actual buttons on your suit or blazer jacket, starting with a 3 button jacket (You shouldn’t own a jacket or blazer with more than 3 buttons unless you are actually in Boys 2 Men and the year is 1992). Basically the top button is optional and depends on the cut.

With 2 button suits it gets a little simpler, you just never button the bottom button.

A single button suit requires very little thought, with the 1 button and all.

So what to do when you’re stepping out and wearing a double breasted suit or a waistcoat. they also come in varied button configurations based on the cut and the trend of the time. The rule here is a little simpler, the bottom button always remains unbuttoned.

Legend has it that Kind Edward VII started the trend of leaving the last button of his suit undone, this isn’t to say that the king was a fashionista with a keen eye for trend spotting, but more to say that the king was a fatty. Yep, his suit got too tight so he would leave the button open, eventually the same for his waistcoat, and so on…as time passed and out of respect for the fat king, it became custom.

Okay. Stay fancy.

So Misha had been invited to the premiere of the Great Gatsby at Spier event and, it was a dress up theme. Yesssss.

Now, I don’t need a lot of convincing to wear a bow tie, in fact I need no convincing at all. I know you know this. One of the comments from Misha’ friends when she saw me was “Why didn’t you dress up Serg”…Har Har Har. Either way, what makes it work is the detail (as always) of what you put together and of course I went Gatsby with a twist, as you can tell by the skinny chinos. My ultimate Gatsby on this particular get up was that skinny bow tie, and of course the movember mo didnt hurt.

The night actually turned out to be quite fun, and it’s well worth it if you enjoy a good musical or two. The show was brought form the original in London and they even create a mini speak easy with interactive theatre and all the delicious wine you can drink. You want detail, go here.

The details of the outfit are the following:

Checked blazer from Zara

thin blue ‘Kenneth bow tie’ by Heywood 1922

White button down from H&M

‘Levi’s hank’ pocket square by Heywood 1922

Tan leather belt by Paul Smith

Skinny chinos by Abercrombie & Fitch

Tan wingtips from Zara

Okay. Stay fancy.

Having just done a post on details I was so happy to find one of my all time favourite designers Sir Paul Smith, speaking about exactly that, ‘interesting touches’. Once again courtesy of Mr Porter.

The whole video is profound, but this little quote just says it all for me “a lot of men like fashion, they just don’t want to stand out in a crowd”.

Why is that? What’s the worst that could happen?

Okay. Stay fancy.

Todays Wooster Wednesday is in answer to a question I recieved the other day via my twitter simply asking if you can pair a blazer with shorts. My answer as always is, if you feel confident enough to, then yes, absolutely. There’s no doubting Woosters confidence of course, neither is there any point doubting his blazer short combo. It’s kinda like a bad ass school boy.

The reason however that I personally love this shot, is the details. Take a look at the buttons on his blazer cuffs, they actually unbutton, revealing a very navy like red, blue and white detail. Does the detail stop there, well maybe, but Im willing to bet the arms of his sunglasses aren’t red by accident.

Good show Wooster, good show.

Okay. Stay Fancy.
