Full-lengthThis weather is destroying Fancy Friday.

It’s so super dark in the morning that it’s difficult to get a decent shot, so apologies for the poor quality of pics, we’re working on getting a new camera and lens for awesomeness!

Anyway, todays outfit was all about these new Munguia shoes I picked up in New York recently, they accidentally went perfectly with my burgundy pants, as if they were made from the same fabric, well, if my pants were leather that is. They’re not.

I’m also a big fan of the half a suit, I know its frowned upon to not wear a suit as a whole as it wears out unevenly, but I think you end up getting more use out of it this way. This suit had a fine burgundy window pane pattern that went perfectly and paired well with a very busy tartan tie, the pattern was big enough that it stood out from the fine tartan on the suit. That’s always the best way to mix patterns, by their size, if the size difference is big enough it should work.

The final touch was the yellow lapel flower. Why? Well, because it went with nothing and if are to believe Hardy Amies and I see no reason not to then we should know “To achieve the nonchalance which is absolutely necessary for a man, one article at least must not match”

Okay. Stay fancy.

nick-wooster-checkerboard-vans-blazer-sitting-580x871So, here’s a new Nick look.

I’m gonna say it’s borderline casual, maybe even borderline normal.

Maybe Nick is taking a bit of a break after his recent departure from JC Penny, and as summer roles around in the Northern Hemisphere Nick is gonna take it a bit more casual.

Well, casual for Nick, he is after all still wearing some seriously cerise pants with that very classic navy and white combination he loves so much. His spectacles are outstanding and that trimmed beard really gets that moustache to pop. Good job!

Personally, im just not sure about the shoes.

nick-wooster-checkerboard-vansI’m all for the classic white plimsole with a pair of chinos on a Sunday afternoon while you kick back, but Ive never been a fan of the checkered Van, it’s a little to skateboardy for me.

Turns out though, this is Nicks most prized possession, at least thats what he told GQ in a recent shoot entitled “The Favourite Clothes of Fashions Most Stylish MEn & Women”

I was a little surprised, until I thought about what my most prized fashion possession is, and I kinda think it’s my cheap monday skull T shirt, I’ve had it for ages, it’s completely out of shape and full of holes, and I just love it more and more.

So, what could our Wooster Wednesday lesson be for the week? I’m not sure there is one. Maybe the lesson is to never stop surprising people with your fashion choices. Is that a lesson? I’m not sure.

Okay. Stay fancy.

Dont know why all the semi formal Sartorialist shots have been catching my eye lately.

Maybe its the forced layering I’m starting to experience this side of the world as winter hits. See, being well dressed isn’t all about pocket squares and lapel pins, in fact, it’s easy to look well put together when you’re covered in bells and whistles. It’s when you need to dress for comfort that it becomes a little bit trickier.

That’s what I loved about the above look, that chunky knit scarf immediately tones that outfit down but goes perfectly with his distressed jeans. His blazer and button up underneath almost feel like they come from a completely different outfit! Yet the 2 seem to collide on that fine line of fashion where contradictions work.

Another amazingly spotted outfit by Scott Schuman, well done sir.

Okay. Stay Fancy.

Can you be fancy without a tie?

I kinda thought that you should be able to. I thought if there are enough details in an outfit, the fanciness shall shine through. Right? I think this kinda worked.

Blue blazers are such wardrobe staples, if you only have one blazer make it a navy guy, they’re so versatile they become your go to item when you’re in doubt. To try and achieve the fanciness factor I decided on a very classic blue and brown combo with a gingham shirt (of course), then added some contemporary details like the detailed turn ups and the camo pocket square.

The final touch was my new clip on sunglasses, i’ve been seeing a lot of this on different tumblrs and fancy mens boutique stores.

Here are the details of the outfit.

Brown pants with turn up detail from Topman - get similar ones here

Blue Gingham shirt by Abercrombie and Fitch - get similar one here

Navy blazer from Markham - get similar here

Watch by Uniform Wares available here

Lapel flower from River Island

Camo pocket square by Country Road

Clip on sunglasses by Gucci

Black moccasins with tassel detail from Zara

Okay. Stay Fancy.

Not only is this video a great new way to sell underwear as rather than showing Christiano Ronaldo spread eagle on a yacht it actually gives you the pro’s and cons to the different styles. It’s also just a really fun video, really well made with some great mens fashion advice, all be it a little below the belt.

152 Series - Rose gold and Walnut - frontToday, is my 35th birthday.Yep.

And let’s be honest, birthdays are only as good as the presents you get. This one so far has been incredible, as I woke up this morning to the most incredible surprise of a new uniform wares watch.

It was right next to a stack of bacon and pancakes. I know right, luckiest guy ever.

I’ll let you enjoy the beauty of the watch though as the pancakes are long gone.

152 Series - Rose gold and Walnut

I I have been crazy about this brand since I discovered it about a year ago.

I dont like flashy. Well, not in a watch at least. The simplicity of these watches is just incredible to me.

The above watch is part of the 152 series which aims to reinterpret the classic wrist watch, it’s a swiss made time piece with italian cashmere calf leather, and I cant even begin to describe how it feels.

My first uniform wares watch was also a gift, only from my previous employer, I posted about it in an article entitled the spoils of war. Here it is below.

103 Series - grey rubberThis watch is part of the 103 series and is the entry level watch, though no less beautiful both in design and feel. It carries through the same simple design aesthetic that makes these watches timeless (Yes, I see the irony).

So as I slowly make my way to owning every series and eventually every watch, here’s whats next on my list…the 203 series, ultimate simplicity…just with a date.

203 Series - Rose gold and walnut 203 Series - Brushed steel and blue leatherEither of these will do…if anyone feels up to continuing the gifting legacy of these watches.

Okay. Stay fancy.

It’s funny how different outfits make sense to you at different times.

Not “ha ha” funny, but you know what I mean.

I must of looked over this image off the sartorialist blog over and over, but when I saw it today i thought “wow, what a perfect outfit”

As we get into winter on this side of the world, it becomes trickier and tricker to find new ways of layering while remaining dapper in the process. This young man above has nailed it, its the perfect amount of dapper and casual combined, I especially love the contrast in the very sporty puffer vest and that incredible fedora hat.

Another amazing capture by Scott Schuman, thank you sir.

Okay. Stay Fancy.

Woke up this morning very excited for a bit of a fancy friday.

Yes, I realise I don’t look very excited…more sad…but inside, EXCITED!

After about 3 weeks of just being to busy to think, it was nice to tie a double windsor, pop in a lapel flower and shoot a few pics on the way to grabbing a coffee with my lovely lady.

We’re in that silly time of year, where days start off cold and then get warm and cold, or sometimes, they stay cold, or even warm. Confused? So is my wardrobe, I haven’t quite unpacked my winter warm stuff, but somehow summer is not cracking it.

Still don’t need socks though, thats a good thing.

What we do have here then is a nice tweedish blazer and some cotton pants with an oxford shirt, it gives you all that hot and cold convenience.

Here are the details:

Persol sunglasses from Sunglass hut

Chocolate brown blazer from Markham

Blue oxford shirt from Mr Price

Clarence street tartan tie from Loft Trading

Lapel flower from River Island

Skinny chinos from Levis

Brown brogues from Zara

Okay. Stay Fancy.

_-QKrcKhRWuIcOhzLkqtR7ESCnvYvuX-V4XqXLHVb18I’m a big Ben Sherman fan.

I have been, since i picked up my first Ben Sherman golfer in NY about 7 years ago. At the time I didnt really know the brand, but I remember loving the retro modern vibe it had.

So it comes as no surprise to find out the brand is celebrating it’s 50th birthday, after all it’s been around long enough to inspire everything from the Teddy boys to the skinhead fashion movement and everything in-between.

That’s exactly what you’ll find in the book released in conjunction with the brands anniversary, “50 years of british style culture” . It celebrates a time when fashion was born out of music, politics and culture rather than what was found in our fathers wardrobes.

front cover

Along with the launch of the book is a traveling exhibition of some of the pictures and stories featured within it. What’s even cooler is that for the month of May, this exhibition is being held at Wolves in Johannesburg.

For those of you who have never been to Wolves, you really should of, its only the coolest bar/coffee shop/exhibition space/live music venue around. They also have great cake. Speaking of which…I have cake and 2 cups of coffee for one reader to enjoy together with the exhibition.

Just drop me a comment below and i’ll pick the most hungry. You can also tweet me anything with #LetMeEatCake. Just make sure you’re in JHB over the next 2 weeks will ya.

Okay. Stay Fancy.
